Doris Jane Orndorff French, 84, of 320 Meadowview Lane, Eden, NC, passed away peacefully and left us from this temporary world for the glory of Heaven on Monday, Morning, July 29, 2019, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County.

A memorial service will be held at 7PM Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Joseph of the Hills Catholic Church of Eden, where she was a member.

Mrs. French was born on May 4, 1935 in Washington, DC, the daughter of the late Perkins W. Orndorff and Dala M. Orndorff.  She graduated from Averett College in Danville, VA in 1955. She was an only child, a wife of 56 years, a mother, a grandmother and great grandmother. Doris loved her son in laws and daughter in law.  Our Mom among so many things was an artist, a singer, and deeply religious woman.  Most of all, she was a wonderful dedicated Mother. Mom began all our lives with a deep understanding of the Lord. Never missing Mass, and teaching us how to pray and to pray for others. Our Mother taught us that loving each other is the greatest gift we could ever give her. She instilled in us respect, humility, a love of art and music, hard work and sacrifice, gratitude to our fellow man, standing up for what we believe in and protecting each other at all cost.  Mother helped along with our father to be brave.  She has a special place in heaven and we will miss her all the days of our lives.

Doris is survived by her three Daughters, Marianne Taylor and Husband, Glenn, of Pinehurst, NC, Margaret Hudson and Husband, Mike of Virginia, Beach, VA and Dala Stanley and Husband, Joe of Eden; Son, Christopher French and Wife, Lisa of Culpeper, VA; six Grandchildren, Cameron M. Hudson, Joseph French, Zachary Stanley, Kaleigh Hudson, Joshua Stanley, and Sarah French; and one Great-grandchild, Hazel Hudson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved Husband, Norman Leo French; her Son, Joseph Leo French, Jr.

Memorial contributions may be made in Doris’s memory to either St. Joseph of the Hills; 316 Boone Road, Eden, NC 27288 or Hospice Home of Rockingham County: P.O. Box 281; Wentworth, NC  27375

Your dear mother has been in my thoughts lately. I am sad to hear of her death. I met Doris at the Catholic Church in South Hill, Va. We did a cantor training together. She was performing with the Chase City Community Theater in a production of Annie. She invited me to come and be a part of the play. We had such an amazing time! We kept in touch for quite a while. After she and your father moved to NC we spoke a couple more times. That has been years ago. However, I have thought so often of this amazing woman who I will always call friend. Doris changed my life. Her sweet spirit, and kind heart will remain with me. Please know that my love, thoughts, and prayers go with all of you. Peace to all of you. Ann Schlossnagle
