George "David" Watkins, 67, took the hand of Jesus and went to his eternal home on Monday morning, April 22, 2019.  His faith was in the shed blood of Jesus and that alone.

A memorial service will be held at 4 PM on Sunday, April 28, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (3 - 4 PM) at the chapel and other times at the home of Beth Smart, 201 Beech Bend Lane in Stoneville and his residence.

David was born March 26, 1952 in Rockingham County, NC and a graduate of Morehead High School, Class of 1970.  He was a member of Growing Oaks Community Church.  David was a retiree of Winn-Dixie Food Stores after 31 years with the company and had, most recently, worked for Tri-City Ford as Sales Manager for the past 17 years.

He is survived by his grandson, Jacob Tyler Watkins of Eden;  wife, Paula Evans Watkins of Reidsville;  father, George A. Watkins (Patty) of Eden;  and sister, Tracie Stophel (Dwight) of Axton, VA;  niece, Melissa Hale of Ruffin;  a loving and devoted caregiver, Beth Smart of Stoneville, who took care of him the last eight weeks of his life; life-long friend, Jerry Davis of Eden;  and Kevin Coates and Stephen Swift, both of Eden, whom he loved as his own.

Preceeding him in death was, his mother, Betty Wade Watkins;  son, Brandon David Watkins;  and sister, Melissa Ann Watkins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rockingham County Animal Shelter, 250 Cherokee Camp Rd, Reidsville, NC 27320.
