Martha "Joy" Farabee Wade, 77, of 335 Von Ruck Street in Eden, passed away Monday morning, February 11, 2019, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, February 14, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Danview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, 6 - 8 PM, at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Joy was born February 7, 1942 in Rockingham County, NC, to the late Loyd Mock Farabee and Zelma Leonard Farabee. She was a graduate of Morehead High School, Class of 1960 and attended business school in Martinsville, VA. Joy was a retiree of Fieldcrest Mills where she worked most of her life, in data processing. After retirement, she partnered with her sister, Lynda, and Jane Tuggle in operating "The Farabee". She enjoyed her family and her church, Central Baptist Church, where she was a member. Joy demonstrated her love in everything she did and her love of the Lord shined bright in her sweet, caring spirit and in the way she treated others. Her greatest pleasure in life was being called "Mammy" by her grandchildren and many of their friends through the years.

She is survived by her four children, Lisa Wade of the home, Lori Carter (John Carter, III) of Reidsville, Jim Wade (Janis Hopkins) of Eden, and Kirk Wade (Sandie) of Eden; 10 grandchildren, Eli Roach (LeAnne), Caleb Wade, John Carter IV, Luke Carter, Danielle Craven, Tyler Wade (Melissa), Landon Wade, Ben, Ella and Josie Wade; five great-grandchildren, Macee, Kynlee and Paxton Wade, Ryder Craven and Ayla Bailey; sister, Lynda Burnette (Jim) of Eden; brother, Mike Farabee (Martha) of Winston-Salem; and numerous other family members who loved her dearly.

When my brother, Ricky and I were much younger and living across the street from Ms. Wade, she would put us in the back of her station wagon with her 4 kids and take us to church. She did this many, many times. In my life, I did not know who God was until I hung around Ms. Wade and neighbor Betty Hall. Even though I made it though nursing school, I had a really hard life. I felt like I have seen God many times. He really does comes and talk to you if you believe. I saw my grandfather die from another state in a cloud, I had CPR and heard God say I was going to live longer. I went up against the Attorney General, 10 lawyers 5 times because I had a dream God said he would help me. Another is I had epilepsy when younger, I asked God to do something about it, I have not been sick in 12 years. I thought about Ms. Wade a lot, thinking what a good woman she was, watching how she hung in there when I was little, with 4 kids. For the last year I thought of her a lot, wanting to write her a letter, afraid she would think I was crazy. When my brother told me she died, I went on line, pulled up her picture, and blew her a kiss. I wish she was my momma.
