Herbert Nelson Sexton, Sr., 80, of 225 Meadowood Road in Eden, passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 3, 2018, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.  

A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, October 5, at Mountain View Cemetery in Chilhowie, VA.  The family will receive friends from 1 - 1:45 PM, prior to the graveside service, at Williams Funeral Home, 242 N. Church Avenue, Chilhowie, VA.

Mr. Sexton was born April 23, 1938 in Chilhowie, VA to the late Walter Washington Sexton and Edna Blevins Sexton.  He was a US Marine veteran and a retiree of Fieldcrest / Cannon.  Mr. Sexton enjoyed spending time with his dog "Tag" and gardening.

He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Sexton Perales and husband, Pete;  two grandchildren, Brittany Hedrick and husband, Dewayne and Robert Moorefield, Jr.;  siblings, Vern Sexton and wife, Sue, Don Sexton and wife, Martha, Brenda Wike, and Anita Harmon and husband, Dalton;  aunt, Erma Martin;  and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Virginia Sexton;  son, Herbert "Chip" Sexton, Jr.;  and brother, Wayne Sexton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 7027 Albert Pick Rd, Greensboro, NC 27409 or to your local VFW.

I’m so very sad to learn of Nelse’s passing. He and his family were my very first neighbors in NC. They were out second family members. RIP Nelse. Give my Mama and Daddy a hug in Heaven!!
