JoAnn Walker Alverson, 60, of 149 Piedmont Street in Eden, passed away Monday morning, September 24, 2018, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, September 28, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Ridge-View Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends Thursday evening, 6 - 8 pm at Fair Funeral Homes and other times at the residence.

JoAnn was born August 1, 1958 in Chatham, VA, to the late Millard Edward Walker and Shirley Pruitt Walker Jones.  She was a member of Words of Life Chapel in Axton, VA and was formerly employed by Leaksville-Spray Elementary School.  JoAnn loved spending time with her grandson and family.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Alverson of the home;  daughter, Caitlin Rierson and husband, Chris of Ridgeway, VA;  grandson, Eli;  brother, Jeffery Jones of Eden;  Step-daughter, Laura Southard of Stokesdale;  aunt, Betty Gremmons of Collinsville, VA;  and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bobby "Red" Walker and Tommy Walker.
