Obituary For Riley William Meeks, Sr.



Riley William Meeks, Sr. 87 of Carolyn Court, Eden, formerly of Floyd, Virginia, passed away on Sunday afternoon March 28, 2010 at Moses Cone Hospital. Funeral service will be held 2 pm Wednesday at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Overlook Cemetery. Riley was born March 25, 1923 in Rockingham County to the late James F. and Mintoria Lawson Meeks. He was a WWII U.S. Army Staff Sgt., serving in the Battle of the Bulge, and received the Bronze Star for valor. He worked for Owens Window Company, Floyd Furniture Company and Turner Furniture as a Salesman. Riley attended North Spray Christian Church. Surviving him are daughters; Pamela M. McLain and husband Frank of Reidsville, Sue M. Ligon and husband Mark also of Reidsville, Judy M. Overby of Elon, NC, Robin M. Parrish of Willow Spring, N.C., Bunnie M. Lopez and husband Manuel of Elon, N.C., son; Riley W. Meeks, Jr.and wife Pam of Reidsville, sisters; Eva Jarrett of Belmont, NC, Martha Eanes of Eden, stepsons; Steve and Gary Smith of Floyd, Va., grandchildren; Kelly G. Watkins, Gina M. Loveland, James G. Meeks, Kevin N. Meeks, Caroline Lopez, and Tyler Lopez, great grandchild; Cole Loveland. He was preceded in death along with his parents, wife; Arlene , sisters; Gracie Keys, Thelma Hodnett and Irene Hodnett, brothers; Otis, Hughes, and Phillip, grandsons; Chris Moran and Bill Parrish and the mother of his children; Maxine. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter; Pamela McLain 129 Club House Dr., Reidsville,NC.
