Obituary For Alma Pender Fair



Alma Pender Fair, 82 of 420 Boone Road, passed away at Morehead Memorial Hospital on Friday evening March 25, 2010. Funeral services will be held 11 am Monday at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Overlook Cemetery. Alma was born July 9, 1927 to the late C. Marshall and Willie Lou Duncan Pender. As a young girl, she attended St. Luke's Episcopal Church where she was a member. After completing her education, she resided in Indianapolis, Indiana where she worked for the City of Indianapolis. Upon returning to Eden, she married Charles E. Fair, Sr., who passed away on January 18th of this year, together they attended Leaksville United Methodist Church where they were members. Civically active, Alma was member and past president of the Out-Our-Way Garden Club and a member of the N.C. Federation of Garden Clubs. She distinguished herself by winning numerous awards for her floral creations. She was also a former member of the Tri-City Jaycettes, the Junior Service League and the Eden Preservation Society. Throughout her life, Alma remained active with her high school alumni, being the contact person for the Class of 1944. Survivors, daughter; Ann Fair Hayes of Hickory,NC, son; Charles E. Fair, Jr. of the home, grandsons; Marc Warren Hayes of Hickory and Alva Lewis Fair, Jr. and wife Amanda of Eden, granddaughter; Margie Finney and husband Charles of Eden. 3 greatgrandchildren Michael, Nathan and Aidan Fair, sisters; Rebecca Carter, Norma Parker and Azile Lemons all of Eden. She was predeceased along with her husband, son; Alva Lewis Fair, Sr., sisters; Marie Willard, Eliza Jennings and Constance Buck, brother; Phillip Marshall Pender. Family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6-7 pm at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
