Obituary For William "Bill" Carter Payne, Jr. William "Bill" Carter Payne, Jr., age 83 of 5193 Axton Road, Axton, Va. passed away at his home on Friday June 10, 2011 while tending his garden. Funeral service will be held 11 am Monday at Fair Funeral Home with burial to follow in Lone Oak Baptist Church Cemetery. Bill was born December 31, 1927 in Wilmington, NC. He was a US Army Veteran and a member of Lone Oak Baptist Church. Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of "Piedmont Rod and Gun Club", He graduated from Appalachian State University and retired from American National Bank in Danville, Va. He is survived by cousins; Frank Payne of Cascade, Va., Charlie Payne of Washington DC, and Janie Marzanno of New York, and "Best Friend", Willie Shumaker of Eden.
