Obituary For Barbara Jean Dowdy Owens Barbara Jean Dowdy Owens, 76, of 858 E. Meadow Road, passed away early Friday morning, May 20, 2011, at Morehead Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 7 PM on Sunday at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Owens was born June 25, 1934 in Danville, VA, daughter of the late Robert Melton and Bessie Roach Dowdy. She was a 1951 graduate of Schoolfield High School and later attended Allen's Beauty School. Mrs. Owens was a member of Hampton Heights Baptist Church. She was a retired beautician. Surviving is her son, Larry Owens of Eden and Keith Owens and wife, Jamie of Eden; two grandsons, Benjamin Owens and his fiancee, Brittany Smith, and A. J. Harbour and wife, Bridget; granddaughter, Ariel Owens; and her devoted friend of many years, Christine Jones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Owens; and three brothers, Roy, Eugene, and Jerald Dowdy. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service (6 - 7 PM) at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
