Obituary For William "Billy" Arthur Burroughs
March 28, 1937 - April 13, 2019


William "Billy" Arthur Burroughs, age 82 passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Beacon Place of Greensboro after a lengthy battle with cancer.

A graveside service will be held 2 pm Tuesday at Overlook Cemetery in Eden with military honors provided by the US Navy and the Rockingham County Veterans Honor Guard. A visitation will be held from 1 till 1:45 pm at Fair Funeral Home before proceeding to the cemetery.

Billy was born March 28, 1937 in the Leaksville section of Eden, NC to the late Arthur and Ocie Burroughs. He graduated from Tri-City High School and then proudly served four years in the US Navy aboard the USS Essex Aircraft Carrier. He retired from Sealtest Dairy, and then later retired from Piedmont Natural Gas in Greensboro.  Billy will be remembered as a true friend to everyone he met and having a heart for taking care of others throughout his life. Having loved and treasured his family, Billy made many selfless sacrifices to provide for them. He enjoyed animals, NASCAR, football, basketball, music and old movies. Billy was faithful in supporting his church of choice, Faithway Baptist in Greensboro.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents and most recently by his son Jeffrey William Burroughs of Greensboro.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gloria Handy Burroughs of the home; daughter, Wendy Dawn Burroughts of McLeansville; granddaughter, Nicole Johnson and husband Mark of Alaska; grandson, Rusty Burroughs of Midland; sister-in-law, Nancy Clark of Eden; grand-dog, Abbie Mae; and numerous cousins in Virginia, North Carolina and Arizona.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Greensboro for the superior in-home care Billy received and for the exceptional support of Beacon Place while he was there.
