Obituary For Mary Lula O'Dell Austin
December 22, 1946 - April 8, 2019


Mary Lula O’Dell Austin, 72, of Reidsville, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early Monday morning, April 8, 2019, at Annie Penn Hospital.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 11 at 2 p.m. at the Fair Funeral Home Chapel in Eden, with the Rev. Douglas Bray, pastor of Rock of Ages Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Overlook Cemetery in Eden.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening April 10 from 6-8 p.m. at Fair Funeral Home.

Mary was born Dec. 22, 1946, in Ridgeway, Va., to the late Raymond Dandridge O’Dell and Swannie Grogan O’Dell. She attended Ridgeway Elementary and Drewry Mason High School. Mary was a member of Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Reidsville and was a part of the women’s prayer circle. She was a retiree of Lorillard Tobacco Company in Greensboro, with 42 years of service. Mary enjoyed Bible preaching, gospel music (especially Southern gospel), trips to the beach, and bargain hunting at yard sales and thrift sales.

Mary was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, caregiver and friend who demonstrated a selfless and sacrificial Christ-like love to her many family members and friends.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, Albert Charlie “A.C.” Austin of the home; two dearest and beloved precious sons who will always have her love, Anthony Chad Austin and wife, Koren, of Raleigh, and Bradley Dean Austin of Reidsville; three precious grandchildren, Tori Marie Austin, Stephanie Marie Austin, and Abigail Christine Austin; two great-grandchildren, Effie Lula Marie Austin, and Gunnar Allen Austin; an adopted sister, Patricia Overby of Ruffin; a special friend, Shannon Meeks Gleason; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Christy Michelle Austin; three sisters, Seretta Leila O’Dell Waller, Sarah O’Dell Thacker, and Ruby Caroleen O’Dell; and four brothers, Raymond Dandridge “Dick” O’Dell Jr., George Norman “Bunk” O’Dell, Elkin Winferd O’Dell, and Alvin Thomas O’Dell.
