Obituary For Mary Annie Land Meeks Mary Annie Land Meeks, age 98 of 559 Bryant Street, Eden, NC, passed away Saturday morning September 18, 2010 at Morehead Memorial Hospital. A Funeral service will be held 11 am Monday at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Overlook Cemetery (Meeks Section). Mrs. Meeks was born December 19, 1911 in Henry County, Virginia to the late Jesse and Mollie Hardie Land. She was married to the late Tyler Meeks on April 4, 1929. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Meeks, and two grandsons; Tim Hopkins and Craig Meeks. Her home was filled with music and they passed their love for music to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family was her prized possession. She was an avid reader, skilled seamtress, enjoyed gardening and was an unbelievable cook. She was a great conversationalist, wonderful neighbor and loved her church and friends of the Primitive Baptist faith. She worked in textiles and retired from Dan River Mills. She is survived by her children; Doris Johnson and husband Edward of Morehead City, Alma Vestal and husband Neal, Preston Hopkins and husband Norman of Eden, Olin Meeks and wife Hilda of Greensboro, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6-8 pm at Fair Funeral Home and other times at her home on Bryant Street. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
