Obituary For Myrtle Stratton Nelson



Myrtle Stratton Nelson, 100, of 150 Dusty Lane, went home to be with the Lord and was reunited with her husband early Monday morning, April 26, 2010 at her home. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, April 28, at Fieldcrest Road Church of God. Burial will follow in Danview Cemetery. Mrs. Nelson was born April 9, 1910 in Ruffin, daughter of the late Abraham Lincoln Stratton and Sally Woodall Stratton. She was a member of Fieldcrest Road Church of God for many, many years. Surviving are son, Melvin Nelson and wife, Carolyn of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Jane Lillard and Mary Ruth Underwood, both of Eden; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and brother Gordon Stratton of Eden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Nelson; one grandchild, Melvin W. Underwood; two son-in-laws, Buddy Lillard and Dillard Underwood; sisters, Ruby McGuire, Belle Barber, Esther East, and Lena Stratton; and brothers, Howard, Melvin and Tony Stratton. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, 6 - 8 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Ruth Underwood at 4998 NC 700 in Eden.
