Obituary For William Layton Payne William Layton Payne, 61, formerly of Harrisonburg, VA and more recently of Chatham, VA, passed away early Friday morning, April 16, 2010 at Morehead Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Please contact People's Baptist Church for the exact time and date. Mr. Payne was born March 24, 1949 in Harrisonburg, VA, son of the late Clarence Frank and Minnie Crawford Payne. He was a US Air Force veteran, having served two years in the Vietnam War. He was a career-long electrician. Surviving is his wife, Leanna Payne of the home; his three daughters, Caryn Hirtriter and husband, Chris of Harrisonburg, VA, Jessica Hamilton and husband, Jayson, also of Harrisonburg, and Rachel Mann and husband, Branham of Houston, TX; son, Chris Payne of Harrisonburg; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley Schifflett, Maxine Sellers, and Louise Hawl; and brother, Malcolm Payne.
