Leslie Robert Martin, 58, of 915 Elm Street, after a courageous and gallant battle with cancer, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Hospice Home of Rockingham County in Wentworth, NC. A funeral service will be held at Fair Funeral Home Chapel 2 pm Saturday with the visitation to be held one hour prior to the service. Leslie was the beloved husband of Grey Eubanks Martin of the home; and the father of Amy Eubanks, Derek Martin, David Martin, and Carla Kennon; PaPa of Taylor Eubanks, Paisley Martin, and Zach Kennon; and the son of Clyde and Ada Martin. Leslie was born March 10, 1953 to Clyde and Ada Martin in Leaksville, NC. He graduated from Wentworth High School in 1971. He had two children Amy and Derek, whom he loved dearly and was so very proud of. He married Grey Eubanks Martin in 1990 and gained two more children David and Carla, whom he loved dearly. He worked for Miller Brewing Company for 26 years until a motorcycle accident in 2003 disabled him. His life was changed from that day both physically and spiritually when he asked God to come into his life while lying in the road all broken. A tragedy some thought, but the best day of his, Grey's and his family's life. So many blessings and good things came out of that accident. He often told people that he would go through it all again, the pain and suffering from the accident to be where he is spiritually now. He was a member at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Eden where he taught Sunday School, was a Trustee, and the Treasurer until lung cancer made it impossible for him to do so. He loved his church and church family. He loved the Lord and continually praised Him for all He had done in his life. Through his walk with God, all Leslie wanted was to be an inspiration and blessing to someone.. And that he was. His walk with God, his strength from his faith, and his attitude was a true blessing to his family and friends. When he learned of his cancer and a short time to live, he prayed just for the time to see his two granddaughters, Taylor and Paisley born. He was a proud PaPa. He loved his family. The Lord truly blessed him and his family these passed eight years. He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Grey Eubanks Martin; his daughter Amy M. Eubanks and her husband Steve, and their daughter Taylor of Reidsville, his son; Derek and wife Brooke, and their daughter Paisley of Randleman, son; David Martin and wife Misty, daughter; Carla M. Kennon and her son Zach all of Eden, parents; Clyde and Ada Martin of Reidsville, sister Cindy Edwards and husband Corky of Browns Summit, his former wife; Judy Carroll and the Carroll family and an abundance of family that he treasured and friends that he considered family. Leslie had a burden for his family and friends to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior; he prayed for them daily. No amount of words can sum up his life, his strong faith, and wonderful testimony. We know he is in God's loving care and for that, we are so thankful. We will miss his warm smile. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lighthouse Baptist Church, 8460 Hwy 14 Eden, Nc 27288 or to Hospice of Rockingham County , 2150 NC hwy 65, Wentworth, NC 27320. online condolences may be offered to the family at www.fairfuneralhome.com
To Leslie Martin Family. I went to school with him. He was such a good friend then and after I read his story it made me realize what a good friend that he was and that I was truly blessed to call him a friend. I work with Derek and hearing of his Dad's passing brought a sadness to my heart as I know how much Derek loves his Dad. Reading about Mr. Martin, I hate that I didn't get to meet him! I missed out on a truly remarkable man, but one thing is for sure, he was a terrific role model. I can see that in Derek. May God fill all of you with peace and may He comfort you during this time. My prayers are with you. Another Angel has gone home. God Bless You.

I will miss his smiling face and our talks about life-he was such an inspiration to me as he was so many!! I love all of you!!!!!! Shelley Inman
In the brief time I have known Les, he is one that truly wore the full armour of God. I know very little of his past, but, when he spoke of our Savior, he seemed to "glow". He has a reserved seat at our Savior's feet where those of us that are born again in Jesus the Christ will meet him again. Thomas Pruitt
Leslie was my classmate for 12 years at Wentworth and my co-worker at Miller for 23 years, but most of all he was a dear friend. I will truly miss him and I will miss him calling me "Miss Wentworth". Love and Prayers to you Grey and the family. Love Jerry & Juanita Dooley
To all of the Martin family, We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Leslie. We did not know about it until about 3 PM Saturday. We would have tried to be there for the visitation if we had known it. He will always be remembered by the Perkins family for his love of our BBQ's and it was always such a joy to see and talk with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. The passing of Leslie is sad in that his wonderful smile and compassionate, loving spirit will truly be missed, but we rejoice in knowing that Leslie had a close relationship with his Lord and Saviour and he has now entered into a place of joy & rest, where he will no longer suffer at the cruel hand of cancer. We attended school, rode the same school bus & grew up in the same neighborhood with Leslie and remember nothing but good about him. He was just a super nice guy, who always cared for people. Our acquaintance was recently renewed and we found him to be so excited about his new found salvation in Christ. It was evident that a change had taken place in his heart & life and he was truly a blessing. We look forward to meeting him again in Heaven and we pray for his dear wife Grey & his family, that God might grant comfort & consolation.
