Fred Shuford Chilton, 71, of 122 Buchannan Street in Eden, passed away Monday, June 3, 2013.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, June 7, at Pleasant View Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Ridgeview Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Chilton was born April 24, 1942, to the late Willie P. and Gladys S. Chilton. A 1961 graduate of Morehead High School, he was a former police officer for Eden and a driver for Gra-bell and Russell Trucking. Mr. Chilton also was involved with two racing teams as a young man, with his father and brothers as Chilton Racing, and also later with his son-in-law as C & Z Racing. Mr. Chilton attended and was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father and Big Poppa, who will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy H. Chilton of the home; daughter, Tammy Chilton, and fiance', George Davis, Debbie Ziglar and husband, Robbie, Sandy Boyte and husband, Kevin; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Melvin Chilton and wife, Deb and Keith Chilton. Also surviving are many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousin and good friend, Mike Chilton and his family; also his faithful companion, Champ.

Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, June 6, at Pleasant View Baptist Church from 6 - 8 PM.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Frankie Jones; daughter, Donna Trent; brothers, Wayne Chilton and Dwight Chilton.

The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to Pleasant View Baptist Church, 232 W. Meadow Road, Eden, NC 27288.

So sorry to hear that Fred has passed away. He was a really nice man and I have lots of memories of him growing up. Please know that the entire family is in my thoughts and prayers. He will be truly missed.
