Joseph "Scott" Glasgow, 59, a well-known musician and lifetime resident of Eden, passed away Thursday morning, July 26, 2012, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County in Wentworth.

A memorial service will be held at 4 PM on Sunday, July 29, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Glasgow was born March 2, 1953 in Forsyth County, NC. Scott, a gifted musician had played guitar since the age of nine, playing with many other talented musicians, along with his brother, Greg. He loved entertaining people in Rockingham County and many other areas. Scott gave lessons for many years to people in and around Eden. He also repaired their instruments at Glasgow Music Company.

Scott will also be remembered for his love of sports. He played baseball and football and was captain of the football team. An injury to his knee took him out of football and also caused him to lose a year of school. He never got to play again. His love of sports kept him helping other kids and he worked with children at the Boys Club for about 11 years. Music and sports were his world.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Joseph Roberts Glasgow; daughter, Meagon Elaine Glasgow; brother, Greg Glasgow; mother, Elaine Hundley Glasgow; and a sister, Robin Glasgow, all of Eden. He also leaves one niece, Brandy Reavis; two nephews, Graham Glasgow of Columbia, SC and Justin Glasgow of Raleigh; one great-niece and one great-nephew; and his long-time friends, Dee Throckmorton.

Preceding Scott in death, was his father, J. D. Glasgow and brother, Bart Glasgow.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday (3 - 4 PM) at Fair Funeral Home.

You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Scotty & I competed against each other during childhood (I played for the Spray Y teams against the Boys Club teams) and with each other upon reaching Leaksville-Spray Jr. High and MHS. My wife, the former Carol Edwards, and I have not lived in Eden since 1971, but I have never forgotten Scotty's competitive fire nor his laughter. May God comfort you during this incredibly difficult time. Reggie Hundley

Robin, Joe,Meagon and family, I was saddened to read of Scott passing away. Of the things that could be said of Scott, I would list number one as he cared for his family. I well remember and cherish the many, many hours he spent at the Boys and Girls Club. Scott was responsible for teaching the fundamentals of football and baseball to Corey. Please know that our prayers and thoughts will continue in the days ahead. May God comfort and be with each of you.

I'm terribly sorry for the loss in your family. I consider myself very fortunate to have known and shared time and experience with Scott in this lifetime. His point of view was always positive and realistic. He always had encouraging advice and if he ever saw me walking he would pick me up which is always greatly appreciated. Scott Glasgow a local legend of sorts. I always heard about him from Bart and then when I finally met and heard him play he lived up to everything that I had heard. A phenomenal guitar player and a very humble person. He will be sorely missed.

Joseph, Meagon, Elaine, Robin, Greg and the entire family. I am so sorry for the loss of your father, son and brother. I'm sorry, I only found out that he passed away this morning, therefore I didn't make it to the service. It was so sudden and can only imagine the pain that all of you are suffering. I just want all of you to know that myself and the entire Terry family have you in our thoughts and our prayers. Scotty will be dearly missed. We love all of your family.

To Greg and all Scott's family: Scotty was a wonderful childhood friend. Our band practiced many times in the Glasgow home. Scott's parents had great patience as Greg's band and our band practiced in their basement. We played in the battle of the bands at Leaksville Jr. High in 1966 or '67. Scotty was lead guitar & volcalist. We played at parties & soda shops after school. Love and prayers to you all--great memories. Ronnie

I went to school with Scotty as I called him. I had some classes with him. He used to pick on me all of the time. I am sorry to hear about his death and also about the recent loss of your father J.D. My father Charlie A. Ward grew up with your dad. I used to live not far from where you grewn up. you grew up on coleman street and I grew up at 1209 Irving Ave. I have one question did scotty ever get saved? I tried to witness to him but i don't think he took me serious. I wish I had came in your store and seen him again. Ruth Ward Close.

Truly sad to hear the loss of Scott. I just got done finishing up a song in the studio with a 5 String Peavy bass and Peavy bass amp that he pretty much gave me. He was always willing to help the young broke musicans in Eden with music gear. I live in Maryland now and just happen to find out the hard way. I will have his family in my prayers... Peace to Greg very sorry brother! My he rest in peace!

The saying " Old Friends Are Gold Friends" could not be more true in this case. I was trying to recall how long I had known Scott and I am certain it goes back to 1973. I am so grateful I was able to see Scott play twice in one year as I had no idea it would be the last time I would ever hear him play. Scott was , as so many have stated, a very talented person and always had a smile on his face. I had no idea of the pain he was enduring as the smile was still there. I will never forget the last time I saw him in Reidsville, NC and although he always palyed well and it seemed he played his heart out that night. It was amazing. And I will never forget the last words as we discussed the length of our friendship. My condolences , of course go out to the Glasgow family, Scott's children and "Dee" who had become so important in his life. This is a man who will be missed tremendously. Especially, that smile. Rest in Peace , Scott and hopefully, someday, I will see that smile again.
