A funeral service will be held at 4 PM on Sunday, April 15, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Danview Cemetery.

Mrs. Uden was born August 11, 1926 in Draper, NC, daughter of the late Ray and Roberta Knox DeHart. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a retiree of Eden City School System. Mrs. Uden was a generous and pleasant person who was always a joy to be around. She was humble and did not want recognition for her many accomplishments. Judy graduated from Greensboro College with a degree in Sociology. She earned her Masters in Education from UNCG. She taught in the Albemarle City Schools for several years and in the Leaksville, Spray, Draper and Eden schools for many years. Judy was asked to to develop a program for the gifted and talented students at Leaksville-Spray Junior High School. She was commended by the State Department of Education for her outstanding work. This was the first class in Leaksville township and one of the earliest in the state. Mrs. Uden was also co-owner of Uden's Shoe Center, along with her husband. She was a lover of all animals, in particular, cats and dogs.

She is survived by her husband of 57 1/2 years, Raymond Uden ; sisters-in-law, Shirley Levine of Wilmington and Edith Bihary of Atlanta, GA; nieces and nephews; and many, many special friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sally Ray Uden.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (3 - 4 PM) at Fair Funeral Home Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 130 Main Street, Eden, NC 27288; or to Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.

Mrs. Uden will be missed by so many. I was in her pioneering class which she developed, and it was an excellent program, thanks to her enthusiasm, hard work, creativity, and caring nature. May the sweet memories shine through the sadness for her loved ones.

Judy taught 8th Grade gifted and talented students, and I then taught her classes beginning with A. G. English from Grades 9-12. She was a wonderful teacher who gave the students the background they needed to begin high school English. Not only was she a wonderful teacher, she was a loving human being. I cannot begin to count the times she and Raymond supplied shoes for needy students who had nothing. All I had to do was go to their store on The Boulevard and ask, and the gift was given in a most magnanimous, altruistic way. Good citizens are treasures, and we have lost one. My sympathy to Raymond, a "gentle giant" of a man with such a loving heart and perhaps the warmest smile of anyone I know. John and I care for you so much. Please let us help you through your sorrow in any way that we can.

I worked at Burke's Ben Franklin during high school and I remember she would bring Sally to the store and buy coloring books and crayons and I was always so glad to see them. Let us all find comfort in knowing they are together in heaven.

Dear Ray, Debbie and I were so saddened to hear of Judy's passing on Friday and of course your great loss. We would like you to know that, while we cannot be there with you, you are very much in our thoughts and prayers and we would like to extend to you our deepest sympathies. Please consider me to be in that front row with the rest of our fellow Kiwanians in heart and spirit, supporting you all the way, not only today but forever onwards. I shall never forget that night at 'The Golden Corral" in Eden that you led my induction into Kiwanis - I have considered that a special bond ever since. I also think of you every time I put on my running shoes or work boots that we bought from you just before we left Eden. Please know that you are always welcome in our house should you ever venture this far north into Yankee territory. All of our Best Wishes and prayers to you, Tom & Debbie Merritt
