LAYMON CARLYLE HAYDEN (Eden dateline) Laymon Carlyle Hayden, 95, formerly of 109 Windy Road, passed away Monday, March 5, 2012 at Morehead Memorial Hospital . A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, March 10, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Mr. Hayden was born October 4, 1916 in Virginia, son of the late Posey Andrew and Maggie Robertson Hayden. He was a retiree of Newport News Ship Building and Dry Dock Company with 30+ years of service with them. Mr. Hayden had served in the Army National Guard and was of the Baptist faith. Laymon delighted family and friends with his guitar playing, story telling, and wonderful sense of humor. He was a strong and loving person and a blessing to all who knew him. Surviving family members are, wife of 71 years, Lorene; son, Gary and his wife, Jeannine; granddaughter, Kristen and her husband, Gavin Torrisi; great-grandchildren, Sage and Ian and grandson, Brendan Hayden; also, sister-in-law, Peg Cox and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (1 - 2 PM) at Fair Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Aging, Disability and Transit Services (Meals On Wheels Program) PO Box 1915, Reidsville, NC 27323. Lorraine, Gary and all of the Hayden family, we share in your grief. It was a blessing to have known such a joyful and pleasant man as Laymon. We cherised our time with him. He will be remembered for his love & dedication to Lorraine and his family and also for his sense of humor.

Mott and I were privileged to take Meals on Wheels to Mr. Hayden and his wife for years! He always greeted us with a smile! His enthusiasm for life was contagious, and we always looked forward to seeing him. He always told us to "Be safe, and be careful." We've missed him the last months and are sorry to hear about his death. He was just a real gentleman.
