Dear Burnie and the entire Harter family, I want to express my deepest condolences to all of you during this time of grief in the loss of Ken. He was a great guy and we had some great times together at woodcarving class. I knew him from the time I was a kid and also knew him as a teacher in school and was honored to later be able to call him a friend. If there is anything at all that my family or the guys at woodcarving class can do for any of you during this time please let us know. In Christ, Scott Hall

I worked with Kenny during all of his thirty years at Morehead High School. He was always a kind, helpful teacher, and I can't count the times he repaired various cars for me and gave me good advice about what to buy and how to take care of what I owned. He helped all of us any time we needed him, and he taught generations of students to become better students and citizens. Mea and Wayne, may the arms that welcomed your dad into heaven be the same arms that hold your heart today and through these next trying days. I am sorry he had to suffer during the last days of his life. His kindness and the camaraderie among the guys in his department served as role models to the rest of us. My deepest sympathy and love to all of you is sent with a heavy heart and good memories from a friend.

Ken Harter was my uncle, brother of Wilda Harry, my mother. We were not real close because we lived on the west coast, but I have fond memories of our few visits. Please accept our deepest sympathies. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Glen Harry

There is not enough room in this column to relay all of the memories I have of spending 17 years alongside of "Kenny" at Morehead High School. I knew him well before I began teaching, but when I started my first year, he took me under his wing and became a mentor and devoted friend to me. There were many things that we did together around the school, and he taught me a lot. He was always kind and helpful to everone, and it is no telling how many needy children got a bicycle around Christmas because of Kenny. Many of the auto mechanics in Rockingham County owe a part of their success to the foundation that he gave them. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. AI know he will be missed by you and his many, many friends in this community.
