Walter Henderson Cook, age 84 of 322 Byrd Street , Eden passed away Monday evening November 7, 2011 at Hospice Home of Rockingham County. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m Friday at St. Lukes Episcopal Church with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Walter was born March 14, 1927 in Rockingham County to the late Walter N. Cook and Daisy Gilbert Cook. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a former member of the Tri-City Rescue Squad. He retired from E.I. Dupont and was a bus driver for Rockingham County Schools for more than 20 years where he was known as "Cookie" to all of his student riders. Surviving is his wife, Marie DeHart Cook of the home;son, Walter "Wally" H. Cook, Jr. and wife Karen of Collinsville, Va. ; daughter; Toni C. Troxler and husband Rod of Browns Summit; brothers, Elon Cook and wife Becky of Fayetteville ; Donald Cook and wife Ann of Eden, granddaughters, Jody Waters and husband John , Christy Bruner and husband Michael, Meaghan Smith, Lindsi Troxler and fiance' Wade Forte, Caitlin Troxler and fiance' Jay Smith, Aimee Henderson and husband Brian, great grandchildren, Emily, Caleb, Peyton, Pace and Ella Jane, numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Walter in death along with his parents was brother Lawrence Cook, sisters, Olivia Aheron and Loretta Washburn. A visitation will be held on Thursday evening 6 til 8 pm at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home.
