Robert "Bob" Lawrence Moore, 80 of Eden, NC died Saturday, July 16, 2011 in Burlington, NC, after a courageous twenty-one year battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Monday, July 25th at Twin Lakes Community Chapel in Burlington, where he lived at the time of his passing. Following the service a reception will be held at Twin Lakes. Mr. Moore was a father, husband, textile executive and farmer. He was born and raised in Statesville, N.C., the son of Carl and Elizabeth Holland, and graduated from N.C. State University. He served during the Korean War with the U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps. He was regional personnel manager for many years at Fieldcrest Mills (later Fieldcrest-Cannon) in Eden, N.C., and was an expert in labor relations. Mr. Moore was active in community affairs, serving on the zoning commission and other civic organizations, including president of the Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed being active in the Eden Rotary Club and in local historical groups, and was a member of Leaksville United Methodist Church. Mr. Moore enjoyed travel, reading and writing history, and baseball; in his later years he became devoted to the Chicago Cubs. He spent much of his childhood on farms in rural North Carolina, and never lost his love for the land. For many years he owned a cattle farm in rural Rockingham County, and took pride in calling himself a "Gentleman Farmer". In retirement, he traveled widely, and delighted in living long enough to hear his ten granchildren call him "Papa". He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia (Bowen) Moore; four sons and daughter; three daughters-in-law and one son-in-law, and ten granchildren; David Moore and his daughter Ryan of Charlotte; Steve and Kim Moore and their sons David and Matthew of Alexandria, Va.; Robert and Kristen Moore and their daughter Serena of Asheville, N.C.; Toby and Eleanor Moore and their daughters Cecilia and Olivia, and son Wyatt of Alexandria, Va.; Mary and Glen Mewett and their sons, Robert and William and daughter, Katie of Felton, England. He is also survived by a sister Jane Russell of Burlington and four half-sisters. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to the Eden Preservation Society, Po Box 2201, Eden, NC 27289 Online condolences may be made to the family at www.fairfuneralhome.com

Pat, my sincerest sympathy to you and your children. Bob was a gentleman and a scholar...a person I really enjoyed knowing. I looked forward to our yearly AAUW gatherings at your house because it was always so much fun to talk with Bob. He had an interest in so many topics and could talk with anyone about anything...a true talent. Living just one neighborhood away and teaching most of your children, I had many chances to know Bob over the years, and I was always blessed by being not just an acquaintance but a friend. Thinking about all of you....
