Mildred Juanita Land, 92, passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 14, 2011 at Morehead Nursing Center in Eden. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, June 17, 2011 at Overlook Cemetery. Pastor David Fullerton will preside. Miss Land was born August 2, 1918 in Sanford, NC, daughter of the late Caleb M. Land and Ethel Lois Rogers Land. She was a lifetime resident of 836 Morgan Road in Eden. Miss Land was a long-time member of Spray Baptist Church until she suffered failing health. She delighted in taking care of children in her home for many, many years, both for the family's children and others. The children brought her much pleasure. She was an avid reader and loved gardening, canning, sewing and quilting. Surviving is her brother, Joseph Land, formerly of Stoneville but currently residing in Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, 6 - 8 PM at Fair Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Morehead Nursing Center, 205 E. Dear Family of Mildred Land, I am the new pastor at Spray Baptist Church. I was sorry to hear about Mildred's passing. On my visitation rounds at Morehead Nursing Center I would from time to time drop in and look in on Mildred. I knew that her health kept her from being awake or responding to anyone. I did pray a silent prayer for her at times as I looked in on her. Take courage that the Lord takes care of His own and that she is in a better place now.
