Forty-four years ago, I met a family from Vineland, NJ who would forever be like family to me. I first met Charles at a Scout Troop meeting in Eden, where I also met his son, Charlie. Charles invited me to his home to meet Joann and Chrissy (or as Katherine from Peking Pagoda would call her "Trissie"). There, I had never met such a loving and caring family. Little Charlie even mixed me a drink and served it to me. I figured that all Italian families from New Jersey were the most gracious hosts anywhere!

Charles (and Joann) were ardent supporters of the Boy Scouts of America. Charles served in a variety of capacities with Scouting and wore his (always pressed) uniform to all functions.

Just a few months later I began to meet the "rest of the family"- the Fiocchis, the Toniellis, the Gallelas.....but I never met the Gottis. And with each New Jersey family (and I might add they have all moved to the South) I was welcomed, loved, and treated with the most respect. I remember Charles said respect is an Italian trait that is highly revered.💚🤍❤️

Charles was a doting father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a very caring and kind person. I will forever cherish the memories of Charles, the talks we had, and most importantly being treated like a member of the family.

And in parting, I will always remember Charles (sitting in the recliner) and exclaiming, "Joann, get me something to drink." 😊 Fly high, my friend and welcome to Heaven.
