Ruby Stratton McGuire, 92, formerly of 5650 NC 700, passed away Thursday morning, January 21, 2010 at Morehead Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, January 25 at Dan River Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Elder Kenneth Key officiating. She was born December 10, 1917, daughter of the late A. L. Stratton and the late Flora Meeks Stratton. Mrs. McGuire, a lifetime resident of Rockingham County was a beloved mother and housewife. She was a member of Dan River Primitive Baptist Church and in her younger years was one of the Stratton Sisters of WBTM Radio in Danville, VA. Surviving are her daughters, Sandra Poindexter and husband, Tommie of Eden, and Ester Griffin of Eden; son, Jerry McGuire and wife, Niki of Ruffin; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Myrtle Nelson of Eden; and brothers, Tony Stratton of Ruffin, and Gordon Stratton of Eden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon T. McGuire; sisters, Esther East, Belle Barber, and Lena Stratton; and brothers, Howard, Melvin and Harry Stratton. The family will receive friends Sunday evening, 7 - 9 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of Sandra and Tommie Poindexter of 5650 NC 700. Dear Family of Ruby, It has been a long while since I have seen any of you. My health has been bad for several years now and I don't get out very often. But I want all of you to know that my thoughts and prayers are still with you often and those days long ago at Ruby's are some of my most precious memories. Ruby was such a special lady. She was like a mother to me and all of you my family. I am so sorry for your loss. She will be missed greatly here on earth and welcomed with open arms in heaven. She is singing with the Angels.
