Julia "Ann" Anita Ball Marcum, 81 of 709 Camellia Lane in Eden, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 22, 2011 at Morehead Nursing Center. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, March 25, at Trinity Wesleyan Church with Reverend Wayne Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Overlook Cemetery. Mrs. Marcum was born February 1, 1930 in Elkin, NC, daughter of the late John Verdle and Beulah Hudson Ball. She was retired from Fieldcrest Mills and a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church. She is survived by daughters, Terry Eggleston and husband, Barry of Mebane, NC, and Sherry Mattox and husband, Jerome of Chatham, VA; grandchildren, Joseph Eggleston and Michelle Mattox; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Abigail Mattox; sisters, Faye Light and Sylvia Ball, both of Eden; brothers, Gary Ball of Danville, VA and Vernon Ball of State Road, NC; five nieces and five nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews as well as great-great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Marcum; and brother, Cecil Ball. The family will receive friends and guests at 12:30 pm on Friday, prior to the service at Trinity Wesleyan Church and other times at the home of her sister at 717 Camellia Lane in Eden. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in memory to Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375 or to Trinity Wesleyan Church, 186 E. Aiken Road, Eden, NC 27288.
