Edna Campbell Thornton, 100, passed away early Monday morning, March 21, 2011 at Morehead Nursing Center in Eden. A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, March 23, at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Thornton was born July 15, 1910 in Stokes County, NC, daughter of the late James Henry and Betty Sands Campbell. She was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Surviving is her granddaughter, Kesha Sims and husband, Mark of Myrtle Beach, SC; daughter-in-law, Ceylon Thornton of Eden; special nieces, Barbara and Jimmy Wright of Eden, NC and Betty and Dan Morris of Dublin, VA; and nephew, Mike Herko and wife, Eunice of Florida, and other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Everette Wilson Thornton; son , Wayne Thornton; brother, James Fredrick Campbell; sisters, Myrtle C. Wilson, Eula C. Bateman, Mozella C. Hall, Ollie C. Hall, Agnes C. Hill, Ruby C. Hunter, Edith C. Herko, and Ella C. Gillie The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, 7 - 9 pm at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter-in-law, 113 Murphy Lane in Eden. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) 211 N. Oakland Avenue, Eden, NC 27288. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.fairfuneralhome.com
She was such a loving and caring Christian lady and was always an inspiration to us and to everyone she met. Talking with her was much like reading a history book....full of wonderful memories from the past! Please know that the family is in our prayers. Michael and Gloria Reynolds

My condolences to Mrs. Thornton's family. I didn't know her personally, but I saw her often when my mother was in the room next to hers at the Nursing Center. She was a beautiful lady!
