Drewry William "Billy" Carter, 64, of 364 Harbor Landing in Moneta, VA, passed away early Friday morning, January 21, 2011 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, January 23, at Dan River Wesleyan Church in Eden, NC where he was a member. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Ridgeview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Carter was born April 25, 1946 in Henry County, VA, son of the late Beverly Morton and Stella Flanagan Carter. He was a US Navy veteran and a retiree of Miller Brewing Company. Surviving is his wife, Rebecca Harris Carter of the home; son, William "Tracey" Carter and wife, Meg of Wirtz, VA; two grandchildren, Amanda Michelle Carter and Brittany Leigh Carter; sisters, Sally Reynolds of Newport, NC, Josephine Carter and Nancy Odell, both of Eden; and two brothers, Joe B. Carter of Pennsylvania and Henry Carter of Ridgeway, VA. The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to Dr. Kenneth Karb for his dedication to Billy during his time of illness. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Carilion Hospice Services of Franklin County, 180 Floyd Avenue, Rocky Mount, VA 24151.
