Raymond Lee Dixon, 89, of 1329 Rivercrest Drive, passed away Friday morning, January 14, 2011 at the Hospice Home in Wentworth. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, January 17 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Ridgeview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Dixon was born July 8, 1921 in Axton, VA, son of the late Benjamin and Nina McDaniel Dixon. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a retiree of Fieldcrest Mills after 42 years of service. Mr. Dixon loved fishing with his friends. Surviving are his daughters, Carolyn D. Hailey of Eden and Martha Dixon of the home; four sons, Kenneth R. Dixon of Reidsville, Donald L. Dixon of Eden, Michael S. Dixon of Summerfield, and David J. Dixon of Eden; seven grandchildren, Raymond T. Hailey, Patricia H. Campbell, William "Bill" Hailey, Brittney N. Starnes, Jessica M. Dixon, Joshua M. Dixon, and Tyler Dixon; seven great-grandchildren; and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Esther Bray Dixon; and brothers, Posie and Clay Dixon. Visitation will be held Sunday evening, 7 - 8:30 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence. To Martha & Family, I am so sorry to hear about Raymonds passing. He was a nice man. I lived beside of him and Esther my whole life. I have fond memories of my grandpa Melvin,Raymond,and i going fishing. He use to love to pick at us about how many fish he caught. May you look to God he will see you through this difficult time.
