Gary Wayne Adkins, 49 of 109 Steeple Road in Eden passed away early Saturday morning at his home.

A memorial service will be held from 5 - 7 pm on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 361 Billie Harris Street, Eden. The family will receive friends other times at his home or the home of his mother, 477 Wyatt Farm Road, Callands, VA.

Wayne was born on April 30, 1969 in Rockingham County to Mary Celeste Adkins. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

He is survived by his sons, Gregory and Cassandra Adkins of TX, Christopher and Kayla Adkins of Mebane, NC; mother, Mary Adkins; grandchildren, Jonathan Adkins, Dominick Sanchez, Destiny Adkins, Faith Adkins, Cadance Adkins, Emma Adkins, Mia Adkins and Skylar Manns; and brother, Terry Adkins of FL.

Wayne is preceded in death by his grandmother, Edna Mae Harrington Adkins.

Wayne was such a wonderul person. When I moved here 4 years ago, he was the first friend I made. He was always so kind to me. I loved working with him and joking around with him. We had kept in touch even after we both left our job. I will always cherish the long phone calls we shared and how happy he was to talk to me! He was always sharing stories about his grandkids with me and loved hearing what shenanigans my own kids were up too! I told him all the time he was like my adopted dad and he used to tell me that my husband, Greg, and I were his adopted kids and our kids were like his grandkids. Wayne, you will truly be missed.
