Ronald "Ron" David Chilton, 63, of  Eden, NC passed away Thursday afternoon, February 22, 2018, at the home of his daughter in High Point.

A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, February 25th, at Overlook Cemetery.  Military graveside rites will be performed by the Rockingham County Veteran's Honor Guard.   The family will receive friends Saturday evening, 6 - 8 PM, at Fair Funeral Home.

Ronald was born June 15, 1954 in Leaksville, NC, to the late Raymond Roger Chilton and Mollie Odell Chilton.  Many would say he was an extremely hard worker and a man of many talents.  He always had a positive attitude, which included a smile that will never be forgotten.  Ron was considered a very strong man, especially with the fight he put up toward his opponent for the last few years, Lou Gehrig's Disease (aka ALS).  Unfortunately, he grew weak day after day until he couldn't fight anymore and lost his battle with ALS.

He is survived by Jackie Gibson Harris of Eden;  his daughter, Kristi Chilton-Paige (Erskine) of High Point;  step-children, Rodney Axsom (Charley) of Southport, Missy Simon (John) of Lexington;  sister, Gayle Hand;  brothers, Paul Chilton (Audrey), Dale Chilton (Pam) and Gary Chilton, all of Eden;  numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and his dear friends, Herman and Kitten Grogan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Sydney Layne Chilton;  sister, Carolyn Chilton Lanier;  brothers, Stephen Chilton and Randy Chilton;  and step-son, Jerry Ray Axsom.

The family offers a special thanks to the ALS Association, Wake Forest Baptist ALS Clinic, and Hospice of the Piedmont for all of their care and support.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the ALS Community of Hope under the NC Chapter for Ron Chilton, because we need to find a cure for this horrible disease; http://web.alsa.org/site/TR?pg=entry&fr_id=10054#.WpAeFt9OnZE.
