Betty McGinnis White, age 89 passed away on Saturday morning January 20, 2018 at Brookdale of Eden.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 2 pm at Leaksville United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 till 2 pm at the church and other times at the home of her daughter, 236 Farrell Street, Eden.

Mrs. White was born January 15, 1929 in Cliffside, NC to the late J.V. McGinnis and Clara Elmore McGinnis.  She was a graduate of Cliffside High School and also graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College.  She played basketball in High School and later played in a basketball league in Leaksville.  Betty taught Physical Education (P.E.) and Science at Holmes Junior High and retired from Rockingham County School System. 

Betty played the piano for the Men’s Bible Class at LUMC.

She was preceded in death along with her parents by her husband, Lawrence Glenn White; sister, Sarah Wall and brother Jack McGinnis

Surviving are daughter, Debra White Galloway and husband Cecil of Eden;  sisters Margaret Harrold and husband Bartley of Ft. Myers, FL and Anne Pless of Asheville; brother, Frank McGinnis and wife Louise of Cliffside, NC; grandsons, Nick Galloway and wife Erica of Tazewell, VA and Sam Galloway of Hull, UK; numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to the Brookdale of Eden and staff and a special thanks to Wendy Kasten for the loving care she gave to Betty.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Leaksville United Methodist Church, 603 Henry Street, Eden, NC 27288

Mrs. White was my science teacher at Holmes Jr. High School and Glenn was my woodcarving buddy. My deepest condolences go out to the whole family during your time of loss. You are in my prayers. God bless you.
