Velva Hammock Lumpkins, 91, of Eden, passed away Thursday evening, November 23, 2017, surrounded by her family and friends, at Morehead Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, November 27, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in Danview Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Sunday evening, 4 - 7 PM, at Fair Funeral Home and on Monday, following the funeral service, at the home of her daughter, Fran Peters, 313 S. Hundley Drive in Eden.

Velva was born June 17, 1926 in Eden, NC to the late Lewis Chapman Hammock and Viola May Hammock.  She worked for Fieldcrest Mills until her retirement in 1988.  After retirement she enjoyed traveling, making jewelry, working in the yard, going to casinos, seeing Tom Jones in concert, shopping having visitors and enjoyed living life to the fullest.

She is survived by by three daughters, Reba Enriquez (Martin), Marie Lumpkins (Nathan), and Fran Peters (Bruce);  two grandchildren, Steven Lemons and Wendy Buchanan;  seven great-grandchildren, Ashelyn, Sarah, Stephanie, and Steven Lemons, Harley, Kain, and Corbin Buchanan;  one great-great-grandchild, Hope Turpin;  brother, Earl Lawrence Hammock;  sister, Dorothy Cannon;  and special friends, Judy Culkin and Floyd Thacker and his children, Tracey and Richard.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Columbus Lumpkins and two brothers, William Oliver Hammock of California and Albert Ray Hammock of Eden.

The family would like to thank the employees of the Emergency Room and ICU at Morehead Memorial Hospital, for their care and compassion.
