Leonard "Slick" William Horsley, Sr., 92, passed away from earth on Sunday, September 17, 2017, and joined Helen, his loving wife and eternal companion to whom he was married more than 60 years.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, September 20th at Draper Pentecostal Holiness Church.  Burial will follow in Danview Cemetery with military rites being performed by Rockingham County Military Honor Guard.   The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, 6 - 7:30 at Fair Funeral Home.

Mr. Horsley was a graduate of Draper High School, Class of 1942 and a member of Draper Pentecostal Holiness Church where he was a former choir member and usher. He was a World War II US Navy veteran and served in Europe and in the Pacific for which he was awarded 4 Battle Stars.  Mr. Horsley was a part of the Normandy Invasion.  He was a member of the Draper Volunteer Fire Department for many years.  For 20 years he worked for Carolina Delivery Service in Charlotte, NC then for Fieldcrest-Cannon for another 20 years before he retired in May 1988.

He is survived by his son, Leonard "Bill"  W. Horsley, Jr. and wife, Laura of Greensboro;  daughter, Cheri H. Gilley and husband, Dock of Little River, SC;  three grandchildren, Len W. Horsley, III and wife, Rhonda of Eden, Derek Gilley of Ridgeway, VA and Brian Gilley and wife, Meredith of Rolesville, NC; five great-grandchildren, Trey and Ty Horsley of Eden, Evan Gilley of Ridgeway and Amelia and Alec Gilley of Rolesville;  special friends, Charles and Trudy Lillard;  his afternoon coffee buddies;  and his church family.

Mr. Horsley was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Edens Horsley, his parents, Claude L. Horsley and Bertha Minter Horsley and sister, Frances H. Compton. 

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Morehead Memorial Hospital, ER and 2nd Floor;  to Dr. Parsons and Dr. Sasser;  and to the staff of Morehead Nursing Center, East and West Wing.

Memorial contributions may be made to Draper Pentecostal Holiness Church, 200 S. Bethel Street, Eden, NC  27288.
