James "J. R." Robert Evans, 71, of 14434 NC Hwy 87 North in Eden, passed away Wednesday night, August 23, 2017 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, August 26 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. The burial will follow in Ridgeview Memorial Gardens with military honors being performed by the Rockingham County Veteran's Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (1 - 2 PM) at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Mr. Evans was born June 4, 1946 in Leaksville, NC to the late Robert Lee Evans and Geneva Brame Evans. He was a US Air Force Vietnam veteran, a member of the Rockingham County Veteran's Honor Guard and a member of the American Legion and VFW. J. R. was a regular volunteer at the Eden YMCA and the Parks and Recreation Center and enjoyed several other volunteer opportunities within his community. He was an avid supporter of all the local high school athletic teams. J. R. was a retiree of the Reidsville Post Office.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette "Jenny" Robertson Evans of the home, his sister, Pamela Evans Harper of Birmingham, AL and all of Jenny's family who welcomed him with open arms and loved him as their own.

JR was my friend all the way back in School starting in the 7th grade at Leaksville Junior High .He was a fellow graduate of MHS 1964, and fellow Vietnam and USAF Veteran .It was always a pleasure to talk to JR when I was in Eden over the years .I'll miss my friend .Praying for Jenny .Both the sweetest people one could ever Meet .
