Shirley Ann Gatewood Edwards, 81 of 407 Lake Street, Eden passed away on Saturday August 19, 2017 at Moses Cone Hospital.

Mrs. Edwards was born January 29, 1936 in Rockingham County, NC to the late Raymond and Lessie Gatewood. She was a member of the Drewey Mason High School's first graduating class. She was a member of Aiken Summit Wesleyan Church. Shirley was a former employee of Sealtest Resturant in Eden and later with her husband Frank, the two of them were the gate attendants at Salt House Branch on Philpott Lake.

Surviving are son, Mike Carter of Ridgeway, VA; daughter, Teresa Allen and husband Donald of Winston Salem, NC; granddaughter, Megan Becerra and husband Juan; great grandchildren, Sylvia and Juan, Jr.

Per her request there will be no formal visitation or service.

I realize I have not been in contact with grandma over the last several years especially prior to my Mom Debra passing. I really hate I had to hear about this over a friend sharing on Facebook. I would like to recognize the other two children of Shirley that have passed. Debra Ann Carter and Sherene Carter. I would also like to recognize the rest of the surviving grandchildren that share special memories with grandma Shirley. Nick, Anthony, Brandon and Katrina. Unfortunately the passed children and surviving grandchildren of Shirley were overlooked.
