Curtis Howard Blackwell, age 72 of 3867 Fred's Road, Winston Salem, NC passed away on Wednesday evening at Hospice and Palliative Care in Winston Salem.

Curtis was born August 5, 1944 in Wise County, Virginia to the late Ernest and Dora Elizabeth Holbrook Blackwell.

Curtis was a U.S. Army veteran and was an Aviation Technician. He loved his family and his friends.

He was preceded in death along with his parents by his wife, Avis Richardson Blackwell.

Surviving are daughters, Julia Blackwell of Winston and Dee Richardson of Longview, WA; son, Norman Hiatt and wife Kimberly of Washington, NC; grandchildren, Jasper Keller, Chase Hiatt, Haley Hiatt Braddy and Addy-Elizabeth Martin; brother, Fred Blackwell of Mansfield, Ohio and sisters, Janice Rice, Anna Jean Green, Jo Reid, and Eleanor Moody

A Hangar Memorial service to celebrate Curtis's life will be held at a date to be announced later at Rockingham County ( Shiloh) Airport.

The family wish to thank the Staff, Dr.'s & Nurses at Hospice for exceptional care of Curtis during his stay.

Curtis was one of the most honorable and knowledgeable men I have known in aviation. He was always quick to help anyone willing to learn and possessed the gift of sharp wit. I look forward to having more of those conversations with him again someday. You will be missed my friend.
