James Richard Kallam, Jr., 71, of 8635 NC Hwy 700 in Ruffin, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017, at his home.

A memorial service will be held at 4 PM on Thursday, June 1, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (3 - 4 PM) and other times at the home.

Mr. Kallam was born February 4, 1946 in the North Spray section of Eden, NC, to the late James Richard Kallam and Jessie Austin Kallam.  He was a master carpenter who worked, also, in textile and cotton mills all his life.  He built highways and bridges and helped build the dam at Dan River Steam Station.

He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Kallam Walker of the home;  son, Shannon Dale Kallam;  four grandchildren, Sherry Lynn Walker, Dusty Dale Walker, Alex Dale Kallam and Debra Shay Kallam;  great-grandchild, Cameron Blake Lovelace;  mother of his children and best friend, Jeanette Vernon;  sister, Delores K. "Sis" Younger;  brother, Gene Franklin Kallam (Linda);  and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Marlene Kallam Newsome and Molly Bea Kallam Harris; granddaughter, Shanta Evette Walker;  son-in-law, Tommy Edward Walker;  and brother-in-law, Jerry Allen Younger.
