Dorothy Maxine DeHart McGuire, 87, of 6656 Axton Road in Axton, VA, passed away Sunday night, May 7, 2017, at her home.

 

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, May 10 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel in Eden, NC.  Burial will follow in McGuire Family Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, 6 - 8 PM, at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

 

Mrs. McGuire was born April 13, 1930 in Bedford, VA, daughter of the late Ralph and Hester Louise Bruce DeHart.  She was a member of Lone Oak Baptist Church in Axton and was retired from her own wallpaper hanging business.

 

She is survived by her husband, James Charles McGuire of the home;  seven children, Dorothy "Pinky" Ward (James Joseph) of Rural Hall, Sandra Pyrtle Corns (David) of Martinsville, VA, Diana Lynne Cherry (William) of Ridgeway, VA, Susan Moore of Eden, Jan McGuire Starke (George) of Eden, James Charles McGuire, Jr. of New Bern, and Brian Keith McGuire of Axton, VA;  10 grandchildren;  nine great-grandchildren;  four great-great-grandchildren;  and sister, Ralphine Light of Eden.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Walter Samuel Pyrtle, Jr. 

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 730 E. Church St., Suite 13, Martinsville, VA  24112.
