Carl "Huston" Axsom, Jr., 82,  passed away early Thursday morning, March 23, 2017, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, March 25, at Draper Christian Church with burial to follow in Danview Cemetery.  Military rites will be performed at the graveside by the Rockingham County Veteran's Honor Guard.  The family will receive friends Friday evening, 6 - 8 PM, at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of his sister-in-law at 214 Meeks Road in Eden.

Mr. Axsom was born July 17, 1934 in Draper, NC, to the late Carl Huston Axsom, Sr and Marie Bolick Axsom.  He was a US Army veteran and a member of Draper Christian Church.  He was a retiree of Macfield, Inc.  Huston was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing.  He also loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter, Janet Axsom Joyce of Eden;  son-in-law of 29 years, Mickey Joyce of Eden;  three grandchildren, Andrew Axsom Joyce (Beth), Ryan Adam Joyce, and Brayden Isaiah Joyce, all of Eden;  great-grandchild, Lucas Allen Nance;  sister, Judy Axsom Smith of Eden;  nephews, Tony Smith of Horsepasture, VA and Carl Wayne Smith of Greensboro;  two brothers-in-law, Grover Corum of Texas and Joe Corum (Gloria) of Eden;  sister-in-law, Mary Lee Steagall of Eden;  and several beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Corum Axsom.
