Jonah Sullivan Howard, age 93 of  Eden, NC went home to be with the Lord on Friday evening December 2, 2016.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Craig Bowman and Dr. Harry Smith officiating and burial will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens with full military honors by the Rockingham County Veterans Honor Guard and U.S. Navy.

Mr. Howard was born August 8, 1923 to the late Houston Philip Howard and Zada Williams Howard.  He was a U.S. Navy WWII D-Day survivor of the Utah Beach invasion. Mr. Howard retired from General Motors as an accountant and Fleet Manager. He was very active at Calvary Baptist Church in Hazel Park, Michigan where he was Sunday School teacher, Bus driver and Treasurer for over 30 years. He was also active at First Baptist Church of Eden, in the Tuesday Morning prayer ministry and also volunteered at the local Salvation Army and active sponsor of Bible's For the World ministry and numerous other charities.

He is survived by two sons, Tim Howard and wife Janice of Houston, Texas and Dr. Kevin Howard and wife Laurie of Eden, N.C.; three daughters, Sheila Gordon of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Janet Lingo of Georgetown, Kentucky and Judy Allmacher and husband Mike of Romeo, Michigan; brother, Reynolds Howard and wife Katie of Hartselle, Al. and sister, Dwinna Walker and husband Jim of Brentwood, TN.  He has fourteen grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 6 -8 pm at Fair Funeral Home.

He always had a smile that brightened the room when I'd see him at First Baptist on Sunday mornings. I'll miss seeing him and the sweet, welcoming spirit he had.
