Willie "Morton" Sims age 94 of 4081 Settle Bridge Road, Stoneville, NC passed away on Friday November 18, 2016 at Morehead Memorial Hospital.

A graveside service will be held at 2 pm Monday at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors provided by the Rockingham County Veterans Honor Guard and NC National Guard. Visitation will follow the graveside service and other times at his home.

Mr. Sims was born July 10, 1922 in Rockingham County to the late General E. Sims and Pamela Evans Sims.  He was proud to have served his country in the US Army in WWII from November of 1942 till January of 1946 in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe and was awarded three Bronze Battle Service Stars. He was a self-employed general contractor and later retired from Stoneville Furniture Company.

He was preceded in death along with his parents by his wife of 55 years, Margaret R. Sims, step-mother, Viola Chambers Sims; sister, Viola Lemons;brothers, Jesse Sims, G.E. Sims, Jr. and G.E. Sims, Sr. and infant brother, Troy Sims.

Surviving are daughters, Sandy Vernon (Bill), and Robin Manuel (Ronnie) of Stoneville; son, Mark Sims (Kesha) of Surfside Beach, SC; grandchildren, Gregory Manuel (Cassie), Keith Vernon, Tiffany Gammons (Chad), Melanie Johnson (Terry), Jennifer Webb (Andrew) and William Vernon (Robin); 14 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff of Brian Center in Eden and Dr. Xaje Hasanaj.

It has been a great blessing/pleasure to know Mr. Sims and his wonderful family. I enjoyed his sense of humor. My thoughts and prayers to the family for their loss.
