Peter Paul "Pete" Szymanowicz, Jr., 75, of 310 Pinewood Place in Eden, passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 26, 2016, at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, October 29, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel.  Military rites will be performed by Rockingham County Veteran's Honor Guard.

Pete was born October 25, 1941 in New York, to the late Peter Paul Szymanowicz, Sr. and Helen Moch Syzymanowicz.  He was of the Catholic faith and was a US Marine veteran.  Pete worked for Kraft Foods for 15 years in Dunkirk, New York then for Miller Brewing Company in Eden, NC for 25 years, retiring in 2005.  He lived life to the fullest.  He was the treasurer of the Qua Qua Creek Gun Club, member of Dixie Bass Masters, and was in the Rockingham Fishing Club.  He was a devoted husband, loving father and avid outdoorsman.  Most days Pete could be found in the woods, on the lake or in his "fishing lab".  Pete was full of life, laughter and jokes - in fact, you knew he liked you when he was teasing you.  He loved his family, his friends, gardening and all his animals.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Deering Szymanowicz of the home;  three sons, Peter Paul Szymanowicz, III and wife, Shirley of New York, Steve Szymanowicz and wife, Darcy of Texas, and Frank Beach and fiancee, Sarah of Danville, VA;  five grandchildren, Kelly Dimitri (Adam), Christie Newell (Karl), Laura Szymanowicz, Austin Szymanowicz, Maddie and Dominic;  three great-grandchildren;  brothers, Tom Symanowicz, and Paul Szymanowicz;  sister, Nancy Szymanowicz;  his horse, Cozy;  and his dog, Lila.

The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service at Fair Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday from 1 - 3 PM.  At other times they will be at the residence and will welcome friends there on Friday evening, 6 - 8 PM.

To the Szymanowicz family; my sincere condolences. Pete was a very good man, and a friend to all who he took the time to "tease". But then again, you already know that...It was a pleasure to have known him during my Miller days....

I'm so very sorry for your lose. Pete was a high school classmate and I played football with him in our junior and senior year. His parents and my parents were close friends and I remember them playing pinochle at our kitchen table from time to time as I was growing up. I remember Pete as being extremely competitive when playing football and very humorous socially. Pete will be missed by all of us that knew him.
