Lorene Frances Slaughter Rea, age 92 of Brookdale, Eden, formerly of Morgan Ford Road, Ridgeway, Virginia passed away on Friday evening at Hospice Home of Rockingham County in Wentworth, NC.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Rea was born August 22, 1923 in Rockingham County to the late Luthur and Lillie Hundley Slaughter.  She was a member of Aiken Summit Wesleyan Church in Axton, VA..  She retired from Axton Elementary School as a Cafeteria Worker.

She was preceded in death along with her parents, by her husband Johnny; daughter-in-law, Brenda; sisters, Mary Allen and Doris Washburn; brothers, Jasper, Melvin, Charlie and Garland Slaughter.

Surviving are daughter, Linda Rea Caudle (Fred) of Eden; son, Thomas L. Rea of Greensboro; grandaughters, Rachel Walkup (Gary), Robyn Jones (Keith) and Ruth Johnson (Ashley); grandsons, Tim Rea (Angela) and Daniel Caudle (Laura) , great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Haley, Leah, Mary, Joshua and Madison;
sisters, Sallie Coone (Doug) and Polly Purdy (Johnny); sisters-in-law, Libby Durham, Ruth Franklin, Susan Rea and Sarah Rea.

The family would like to make a special thanks to Dr. Kenneth Karb and the staff at Hospice and also Dr. Hasanji and his staff, also Polly and Johnny Purdy and Ida Barnes.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 till 11 am and other times at the home of her sister, Polly, 1123 Lawson Street, Eden, NC.
