Lucy Nelson Johnson, 81, passed away Sunday evening, September 12, 2010 at Morehead Nursing Center. A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, September 15, at Overlook Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson was born December 31, 1928 in Leaksville, NC, daughter of the late William Lee and Nina Weddle Nelson. She was a member of First Church of the Brethren. Surviving are her three children, Mary Joan Johnson Washburn and husband, Mack, Burton Tyre Johnson and wife, Kathy, and George "William" Johnson, all of Eden; four grandchildren, Candice Bailey, William Warren Johnson, Brandon Tyre Johnson, and Ashley Wrenn Johnson; four great-grandchildren; sister, Peggy Broznick of Pittsburgh, PA; and brother, Wayne Nelson of Eden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Burton Johnson; and eight siblings. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening 6 - 8 pm at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son, William Johnson at 521 Garrett Road in Eden. GB and Lucy were a huge part in my life while I was growing up, I would go over to their house everyday after school to play with Brandon and spend time with Lucy even when Brandon wasnt there. Dearest Family of my Friend Lucy, You don't know me but I learned to love Lucy the first day I met her at MNC in 2008.My precious mom was there for rehab from a stroke which left her with no speech. I would take her to the piano and play hymns which mom could sing which was unbelievable and each and every time SWEET LUCY heard that piano here she came in her wheel chair with that bright, pleasant smile a l w a y s. She loved the songs I would play. She complimented me each and every time.I'll never forget your precious mom. My mom passed Mar. 13, 2009. She lived with me almost 4 yrs. because my dad died in Jan.2006. Please ask God to help because he is the only answer. I lost my husband Sept. 25, l987 and I am still a widow.I will continue to pray for you and your loved ones.I am so sorry for your loss.
