Jimmy Warren Aheron, age 84, of Burlington passed away on Friday, May 13, 2016.

A private funeral service will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church.  Burial will follow in Overlook Cemetery.

He was born June 8, 1931 in Eden, NC  to Joseph and Ida Denny Aheron.   Jimmy graduated from Wake Forest University in 1959 with his BS in Chemistry.  Jimmy worked his career as a textiles chemist while also serving 20 years in the National Guard.  Upon his retirement in 1997, he enjoyed volunteering for Red Cross and Hospice.  He especially enjoyed walks and talks with his grandchildren; the special bond brought great joy to their granddaddy and to each of them.  He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Preceding him in death along with his parents were his sister, Annie Aheron Thacker and his brother, Willie Henry Aheron.

Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife for 54 years, Sondra Vestal Aheron.  He is also survived by his brother, John Robert Aheron and his sister, Irene Aheron Baker.  Jimmy was the proud father of his surviving children, William James Aheron of Charlotte and Elizabeth Aheron Bunn of Raleigh, and the very proud grandfather of his grandchildren, Colin and Sophie Aheron and Connery and Alexi Bunn.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.

From about 1951 to 1954, as a high school student, I worked part time at the Tri-City Food Market stores on the Boulevard and Washington Street. At that time, Jimmy was a full-time employ at the Boulevard store. He was a most friendly, well-liked, energetic person and was a joy to work with. After 1954 I lost track of him and wondered many time what had happened to him. My condolences go to Jimmy's family and friends. May God bless you all.
James Adkins
