James Danforth Vernon, 84, of 127 Dan River Church Road in Eden, passed away early Thursday morning, April 21, 2016, at Morehead Memorial Hospital.
 
A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, April 23, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends Friday evening, 6 - 8 PM, at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
 
Mr. Vernon was born October 8, 1931 in Rockingham County, NC to the late Richard and Annie Sawyers Vernon.  He was a US Army veteran and a member of Dan River Wesleyan Church.  Mr. Vernon retired from Fieldcrest Mills.
 
He is survived by his two daughters, Julia Gouge of Stanley, NC and Sarita Vernon of Eden;  "special family members", Jimmy McBride of Eden and Darryl Hodnett of Pelham;  two grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all from Stanley;  brother, Alfred Vernon of Eden;  and sister, Nellie Bray of Reidsville.
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Leesona Faye Hamrick Vernon;  brother, Carl Turner;  and sisters, Eva Turner Lunsford and Rhumell Domina.
