Walsie Southard Heffinger, 99, of 180 Mountain Valley Drive in Eden, passed away Monday morning, April 18, 2016, at her home.
 
A graveside service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, April 21, at Overlook Cemetery.
 
Walsie was born March 16, 1917 in Leaksville, NC, to the late Archie Southard and Annie Fowler Southard.  During World War II she worked as a machinist in the Newport News Shipyard.  Walsie was a member of Osborne Baptist Church and a retiree of Fieldcrest Mills after 35 years of service.  She loved her animals.
 
She is survived by her sister, Barbara Pulliam of Eden; special niece, Billie Jo Sigmon and husband, Keith of Eden; along with several nieces, nephews and extended family.
 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Basil Phillips; her second husband, Andrew Heffinger;  and eight siblings.

My Aunt Walsie, first and foremost, knew the LORD, and she lives now well and whole in heaven with Him and many family members and friends. She was a hard worker and valued her family. My appreciation to her sister, Barbara Ann, who loved and cared for her until her last breath.
