Gary Edmond Rakes, 71, of 521 Kemp Street in Eden, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016, at his home.

 

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, April 17, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the chapel.

 

Mr. Rakes was born November 23, 1944 in Rockingham County, NC to the late Theodore Roosevelt Rakes and Berter Hooper Rakes.  He was a US Army veteran and a retired roofing contractor.

 

He is survived by his two sons, Sean Rakes and wife, Tara of the home and Mark Rakes of Eden;  two grandchildren, Hope Helms and Brianna Sims;  one great-grandchild, Gavin Robertson; sister, Patsy R. Wilson of Reidsville;  and a brother, Curtis Rakes of Eden.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Murray Rakes;  daughter, Renee Helms;  brothers, James, Ronnie and Arlin Rakes;  and sister, Barbara Shough.
