Orene Hopkins Powell, 88, formerly of Ruffin, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 23, 2016, at Morehead Memorial Hospital.
A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, March 26, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Reverend Bruce McBride will preside.
Orene was born October 2, 1927 in Rockingham County, NC, to the late Luther J. Hopkins and Alberta Ross Hopkins. She was a member of Happy Home Congregational Christian Church and was retired from Solite Corporation.
She is survived by her two sons, Gary Myers and wife, Louella, and James Myers, Jr. and wife, Donna, both of Ruffin; four grandchildren, Christine Taylor and husband, Ben, Julie Sladky and husband, Dean, Elson Myers and wife, Vicky, and Jenny McFarling and husband, Chris; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Lucille Hundley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James E. Myers, Sr.; second husband, Robert Lee Powell; brothers, Alvis, Raymond, Lee, and Noel Hopkins; and sister, Elizabeth Patterson.
There will be no formal visitation.
